Three people were killed in fresh violence in Manipur’s Ukhrul district early on Friday morning. The three were reportedly killed in a shootout with armed miscreants. It has been reported that massive firing has started in Thoai Kuki village of Ukhrul district of Manipur, resulting in the death of three villagers. According to sources, three people have been missing ever since heavy gunfire was heard from the village on Friday morning.Quickly, the villagers started searching for them and later found their bodies.The deceased were identified as 26-year-old Jamkhogin Haokip, 35-year-old Thanghokai Haokip and 24-year-old Hollenson Beit.The incident is the latest in violence-torn Manipur where communal clashes erupted on May 3 after a ‘tribal solidarity march’ was organized in hill districts to protest the Meitei community’s demand for Scheduled Tribe status.

More than 120 people have died and more than 3,000 have been injured since the violence began. Around 40,000 central security personnel besides the Manipur Police have been deployed to control the violence and restore normalcy in the state.
